Vector graphics offer a scalable, versatile file format that can be used for high-quality print output and flexible web graphics.

Typical use cases include logo design, illustrations, print materials, web design, UI design, mobile applications, animation, GIS and mapping, architectural drawings, signage, and more.

And while Midjourney creates impressive graphics, the limitation is that Midjourney can only output pixel-based image formats.

However, there is a NEW AI tool available called TraceJourney that is specifically designed to convert and vectorize your pixel images.

And because Tracejourney is a Discord bot, it makes it super easy to convert your Midjourney graphics to vector without ever having to leave Discord.

How It Works

Step 1: Access The TraceJourney App On Discord

Click here to access the TraceJourney App On Discord.

Once you are in the TraceJourney Discord server, you can view the #video-tutorials, and you will also notice that the Midjourney Bot is included to generate Midjourney images.

Unfortunately, the Tracejourney Bot is not available to use on your own Discord server, so you will need to do the conversions here, which is fine.

Step 2: Generate an image

Rather than use the #images channels, I prefer to generate my Midjourney images directly with the Midjourney Bot, by simply messaging it. This keeps it from being mixed with everyone else’s work.

When generating images in Midjourney, I like to include ‘2D vector’ in my prompt to make sure Midjourney understands it as an illustration targeted for vector art.

Prompt: 2d vector design of an astronaut for a t-shirt.

Step 3: Copy The Link URL And Send It To TraceJourney

After generating an image and upscaling it in Midjourney, simply control-click to open the tab options and select copy link.

Once again, I like to message Discord bots directly rather than use #image channels. So this time I message the TraceJourney Bot.

and by typing /URL I can then paste the Midjourney link image.

Step 4: Vectorize Your Image

TraceJourney then offers a set of options, and by clicking on the ‘Vectorize’ button, Tracejourney will convert your image to a vector graphic.

Step 5: Download Your SVG Graphic

Click the download button to export an SVG (scalable vector graphic) and use it in a graphics program like Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Designer, Sketch, or Inkscape.

Final Thoughts

As a scalable file format like SVG, vector graphics have no resolution limitations, so you can create printable items or use them in web animations.
